Frequently Asked Questions:

What is arthost.org?

Art Host is a website created to host art and artists. The two ways artists can utilize our services are:

  • 1. Get an account on Art Host. We provide you with the tools to have a professional hosting website without having to know XHTML or CSS.
    Your email: your_username @arthost.org.
    Your site: arthost.org/your_username.
  • 2. Get your own domain, using Art Host as a backend. In other words, you get a personal domain name that displays separately from Art Host; but still get to use our tools.
    Your email: your_username @your_domain.org.
    Your site: your_name.com or your_studio.net

I already have a website. Why would I use arthost.org?

The main reason to use Art Host instead of your current site is our ability to provide you with a more powerful and low maintenance site. For example, to upload an image you only fill out a form and Art Host takes care of the rest. We create the new thumbnail, prepare it for the web and add the new image to your gallery.

The other reason to use Art Host is our continuous addition of new features and services. We are currently working on implementing the service which will allow you to sell your art online. Further upgrades will be posted on the "To-Do" list here.

What if I want to customize the look of my site?

We offer you three options:

  • 1. Coming soon! Several free alternative designs to choose from.
  • 2. You write your own CSS (Cascading Style Sheet) file and upload it to the site. Since we separate the design from the display, you have almost complete control over the final look of your site.
  • 3. Contact an Art Host designer for details on how to get a custom design.

How much does it cost to be a member?

We priced our services to be affordable for all artists and art students.
Basic membership: $7.95 a month.
Personal domain: $9.95 a month plus $45 per year for the domain name.
Art sales: 10% commission for sales through your website.

Membership includes 100MB of space for your artwork and one email address that you can access both through the web or through a POP account if you wish to download your mail to your computer.

The basic membership to the forums is free.

Why is the arthost.org logo designed backwards?

A great example of an artist that tried to explore all knowledge available to him, both in art and science, was Leonardo da Vinci. Since the artist wrote right to left, associating that concept with ourselves sounded like a good idea for what we are trying to do: use technology effectively to aid the pursuit of art.
